Social Listening has evolved from a technique used to provide a quantitative view of digital PR reach and campaign success to deliver so much more, including qualitative insights, and in many cases not just augmenting primary market research but replacing it. As Social Listening as a technique and industry has evolved the need for aligning on training, sharing case studies and innovations has only grown stronger. It’s no longer just a technique but in many cases a career. That is why this year, I participated in pitching both a Social Listening speaking session and industy Meet Up at SXSW Interactive.
Putting social data in context is one of the ways that Social Listening can help you establish ROI. Together with Prerna, from Circus Social – we pitched this session to SXSW Interactive Panel Picker.
Unfortunately, the timing wasn’t quite right yet – and it wasn’t selected. The Meet Up however, generated enough interest with the community that it was indeed selected as an official SXSW Interactive event.
Featuring attendees from Agencies, Social Listening Platforms, Brand Teams and other SXSW attendees – the event, happening on Saturday March 11, 2017 11-12 am at JW Marriott should be a great event to learn, connect and be inspired.
Social Listening is no longer just an add-on to a pitch, or a process to augment market research – it’s a career. While social listening tools abound, they still require the expertise of these Social Listeners to translate business questions to boolean queries, identify the right data sets, and conduct the analysis from which they can provide insights and recommendations.
As the tools used in social listening evolve, so do the approaches used by Social Listeners to draw out truly actionable insight. Thus making this a rapidly evolving field and career.
